Make the Most of Your Lennox Smart Room Sensor

The Lennox Smart Room Sensor is a room temperature balancing sensor for the Lennox S40 Smart Thermostat. It helps you dial in a more perfect environment by providing accurate temperature and humidity readings to the Lennox S40 Smart Thermostat and telling it how to balance temperatures across the rooms where the sensor is placed.

Make the Most of Your Lennox Smart Room Sensor

  1. Install the Lennox Smart Thermostat App which, connected to the Lennox S40 Smart Thermostat, allows you to monitor, control, and balance room temperatures from anywhere. Scan the QR code to download the app and view how-to videos.

  2. Customize your comfort by adjusting your sensor participation settings. During the busiest time of the day when your Lennox Smart Room Sensor is active, you may want to have multiple sensors participating; for example one in the living room and one in the office.

  3. Decide if you prefer the occupancy sensor to be on or off. If you choose to turn it off, the temperatures will consistently be averaged between the main thermostat and the Smart Room Sensors. Go to Menu > Settings > Devices and look for the sensor you want to disable, select sensor and turn “OFF”.

You can use up to 6 Smart Room Sensors per single S40 Smart Thermostat BLE mesh network. However, you can only have a total of 6 smart accessories to one S40 Smart Thermostat. So, if you have a Smart Air Quality Monitor or a Wireless Extender, those will count towards your 6 smart accessories.

Place your Lennox device at any desired location in the applicable room. If at all possible, it is recommended that the sensors are installed on a wall. This ensures the device will not be lost or accidentally damaged.

The Smart Room Sensor offers versatility of installation:

  • For sensor desktop/table placement, use the provided tabletop stand. If the stand is used, then the smart room sensor should be placed out of reach of children or pets. Possible locations can include a bookshelf or a desk. Wall mounting the sensor is preferred to avoid potential loss of or damage to the smart room sensor.
  • For wall placement, install room sensor at a minimum height of 5 feet or 1.52 meters on an interior wall.
  • For effective temperature sensing, mount the sensor in a location enabling it to sense the general room environment.

1. Open the Lennox S40 Smart Thermostat app: Go to Menu.

2. Under System select Settings.

3. Under Smart Devices select Add.

Do not install the Smart Room Sensors where it can be affected by:
 • Drafts or dead spots behind doors and in corners
 • Exterior entrances or interior doors
 • Heat generating equipment such as kitchen appliances
 • Hot or cold air from ducts
 • Radiant heat from sun or appliances
 • Concealed pipes and chimneys
 • Non-conditioned areas such as an outside wall behind the sensor

Another consideration is Bluetooth signal strength interference by physical objects and materials. The type and thickness of the material can affect how much interference is induced. One or more of the following can interfere with the Bluetooth signal:
 • Large metal objects and appliances like filing cabinets, metal doors, and refrigerators.
 • Floor and ceiling plenum spaces featuring joists, plumbing, duct work, and other materials.
 • Plaster, concrete, and specialty glass such as bulletproof or shatterproof glass
 • Water, brick, and marble materials
 • Wood, glass, and synthetic materials like plastic.

Install the Lennox Home App which, connected to the Lennox S40 Smart Thermostat, homeowners can monitor, control, and balance room temperatures from anywhere using the app.

Customize your comfort by adjusting your sensor participation settings. During the busiest time of the day when your Lennox Smart Room Sensor is active, you may want to have multiple sensors participating; for example, one in the living room and one in the office.

Decide if you prefer the occupancy sensor to be on or off. If you choose off, the temperatures will consistently be averaged between the main thermostat and the Smart Room Sensors. Go to Menu > Settings > Devices and look for the sensor you want to disable, select sensor and turn off.

• OFF - When the occupancy feature is turned off, the thermostat will always include the sensor in temperature averaging.
• ON - When the occupancy feature is turned ON, the thermostat will only include the sensor in temperature averaging if the room is occupied.
