My family makes a game out of saving energy with "Anything Can Happen Sundays." We have a jar with several energy conserving tips. Each week, we take turns and draw one tip from the jar then, follow those tips. Some of the tips include: adjusting the thermostat by five degrees, no hot water heater day, or no cooking appliances day. Other tips are designed to maintain energy efficiency like Energy Chore Day, where we clean the refrigerator condenser coils or clean out the dryer vent. The ideas encourage our family to work together to save energy. The best part is the kids can contribute their own ideas to the mix, so we always have something new. These habits are helping bring our family closer together while also helping protect the environment for the future!
