HAVE AN INDOOR PICNIC
Summer is prime picnic time, but the weather doesn't always cooperate. Bringing your picnic inside lets you have fun in spite of summer showers, high humidity and allergy season. And the bonus? No ants!
Start by spreading out a large blanket in your family room or another spacious area. Use yellow construction paper to create a big, bright sun and hang it from the ceiling or on the wall. A few puffy clouds are nice, too.
- Load up your CD system or MP3 player with surf music or nature sounds.
- Put on shorts, sunglasses and T-shirts or your brightest tropical camp shirt.
- Bring houseplants and flowers in...even a pet bird if you have one.
- Turn on the brightest lights. If it's a cool, rainy day go ahead and crank up the heat.
- Make sandwiches or wraps, pasta salad and lemonade (or serve take-out fried chicken and potato salad). Since you don't have to worry about food surviving the heat, you can get a little creative with your menu. Try lots of finger foods and baby carrots with dip.
- Pack your picnic basket and don't forget dessert. Adult picnics call for champagne and chocolate-dipped strawberries. Kids appreciate brownies and cupcakes. (Most adults do, too.)
- Serve your lunch using paper plates, throwaway cups and napkins.
- After you eat, lie on your back and watch the paper clouds. Shuffle a deck of playing cards and start a game of Go Fish.
When you're finished, remind everyone not to litter and to be sure to pick up their trash. It's a picnic you'll never forget!
It's no picnic to live with bad air in your home.
