Coming Soon: Autumn Leaves

As nature’s colors turn from green to gold, it’s time to turn an eye to transforming your home for the cooler weather. First, turn on your furnace to make sure your heating system is in good working order. (Be sure to switch it to “HEAT” to check that the system is producing hot air; the fan should be set to “ON” and the temperature set at least 3 degrees above the current room temperature.)

If you’re considering investing in a new furnace for energy savings and better comfort, you’ll want to choose a higher-efficiency system. A furnace with an efficiency rating of 95% AFUE can save you hundreds of dollars each year over a standard furnace. Before you shop, download our guide here to learn the meanings of terms like AFUE, BTU and SEER.

Get $1,200 back when you make your home more comfortable

Right now, you can get a $1,200 rebate on a qualified Lennox® home comfort system*, designed to help you end the battle between hot and cold air. Or, you can save with 6.9% APR and fixed payments for 60 months*! See your Lennox dealer for details.

Try these simple tasks before cooler winds blow in

  • Vacuum dust from vents and air returns and clean baseboard heaters to protect your heating system’s efficiency and reduce the amount of dust circulating throughout your home.
  • If you have window air conditioners, remove and store them until next summer. If they can’t be removed, cover the units with plastic to protect them over winter.
  • Check storm windows and make repairs as needed.
  • Remove garden hoses from faucets before temperatures drop, and remove any caulk or paints from the garage in case of freezing.
  • Walk around your home’s exterior to be sure the earth is graded extending about three feet from the foundation walls. The ground should slope away four to six inches to allow proper drainage.
  • Seal any air leaks around your home to get the best performance out of insulation. The worst gaps are usually found in the attic or basement.
  • Inspect weatherstripping around doors and windows and make repairs as needed.
  • Set automatic sprinklers and thermostats for the cooler season.
  • Check gauges on your home’s fire extinguishers to be sure they are fully charged, and replace them if necessary.
  • Have your home’s chimney professionally inspected and cleaned. An annual cleaning can help prevent chimney fires.

You may also want to consider zoning your home into separate comfort areas that are heated or cooled independently. Your HVAC technician can help you choose a zoning system to control temperature in one area without affecting the rest of your home. And this is the perfect time to take advantage of our $1,000 rebate on qualified systems*.

*See your Lennox dealer for complete details. Rebate offer is valid 9/22/2008 through 10/17/2008, with purchase of qualifying Lennox products.
